Description
Claypit Hall is a house dating to the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations. It is a timber-framed building, now plastered, arranged as a double range. The roof is a half-hipped gambrel of red tiles, with projecting eaves and four gabled dormers. The house has two storeys and attics, and a four-window front featuring 2-light and 4-light casement windows. Ground floor windows have pediments above them, and some windows have square leaded glass in older frames. A red-tiled open porch was added in the 20th century. The front door is a plank and muntin design. Internally, there are chamfered beams throughout, some with stops, including run-out stops. The house also features jowled storey posts, an inglenook fireplace with a straight mantel beam above, possibly indicating a back-to-back arrangement, a relaid brick floor, and an 18th-century corner cupboard.
