Description
The granary and maltings, located 10 metres west of Aylett's Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed from uncoursed flint and pebble rubble, with red brick and puddingstone dressings, and features a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The building has a rectangular plan oriented northeast to southwest and is topped with a hipped roof. There is a buttressed lean-to extension made of similar materials on the northwest side, and a full-length catslide extension of red brick on the southeast side. The structure has two storeys.
On the southwest elevation, the ground floor includes two plain boarded doors, while the first floor features one plain boarded pitching door, one 19th-century casement window, and open vents in the brickwork. Inside, there are remains of a circular kiln built of rubble, with part of it extending as a garden wall to the northeast. Additionally, a low flint and brick garden wall is attached to the southern corner and runs along the southwest side of Aylett's Farmhouse.
