Description
Madura Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of timber frame, with plaster infill and a thatched roof. The original layout comprised four bays aligned roughly north-south, with a chimney stack positioned in the second bay from the south end. A 20th-century lean-to extension has been added to the west. The house is single-storey with attics. The east-facing elevation, towards Mill Road, features three 20th-century casement windows, and two more windows set within shingled, gabled dormers. The roof is half-hipped at the south end, and hipped at the north end. Some timber framing is visible internally. In the north bay, there is an axial beam alongside exposed joists of a horizontal section, which are unchamfered. The adjacent bay contains a plain-chamfered axial beam and plain-chamfered joists of a horizontal section, both with lamb's tongue stops. The remainder of the interior was not inspected.
