Description

The stables, coach house, barn, and Mill House Studio, located adjoining the northwest of Wethersfield Mill House, date from the 18th century and have been partly converted into a studio in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of Flemish bond red brick with burnt headers and feature a weatherboarded timber frame. They have a plain clay tile roof with half-hipped ends and are arranged in an L-shaped plan.

The main range includes stables and coach houses attached to the eastern end of the Mill House, with a barn connected at right angles to the rear on the northwest side. The northeast end of the stable range has been converted into a studio. The exterior is single storey with a loft, featuring a long stable range with a brick front that includes four plank double doors and a single doorway at the center. There is a small four-pane sash window on the left and a pivot window at the center, both with glazing bars. A raking dormer is positioned at the eaves, and there is a 20th-century porch on the right. The extreme right end has a higher roof level with horizontally sliding sash windows on both the first and ground floors.

On the southwest end, there are four tiers of pigeon holes with brick cills and a loft door. The weatherboarded barn on the left has raised eaves over double doors, stable doors on the right, and red brick on the left. The rear is entirely weatherboarded, with blocked double doors leading to the barn and a large studio window at the back of the stables.

Inside, the stables feature a clasped purlin roof, a wattle loft floor, and a wooden manger. The barn includes curved knee-braces to the tie-beams and a clasped purlin roof.
