Description

This barn, located approximately 50 metres south-west of Great Biggins Farmhouse, dates back to the 17th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and weatherboarded, with a roof made of corrugated asbestos. The structure consists of five bays aligned north-south and includes an original midstrey to the west, as well as a lean-to shed at the north end. Notable architectural details include jowled posts, heavy studding, and primary straight bracing. The arched braces to the tiebeams have been replaced with bolted hanging knees, and the wallplates exhibit face-halved and bladed scarfs. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins.
