Description

Belchamp Otten Hall is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, constructed with a timber frame and faced with 18th-century gault brick. It features a hipped grey slate roof and projecting eaves. The building is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with pilaster strips between the bays and double pilaster strips at both ends, each topped with capitals. There is a band below the eaves and a four-window range of small paned vertical sliding sashes. The front has a flat-headed open porch supported by moulded square shafts with moulded bases and capitals, and round-headed arches on the front and sides. The entrance includes a three-panel door with two lights and reveal panels, and there are shutters on the ground floor windows. Gault brick chimney stacks are located on both the right and left sides of the house.

Inside, the hall contains many notable 18th-century features, such as window shutters, panelled doors, and a staircase. It also has a complete bread oven and an on-edge brick floor. The 16th and 17th-century elements include stop-chamfered beams, an inglenook fireplace, and several windows with original ironmongery. The remains of a moat can also be found on the property. The building is likely associated with the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, indicating its significance as a manor house.
