Description

Sham Castle, also known as a folly, was built in the 19th century. It is constructed of flint and uncoursed rubble, featuring red brick dressings and details. At the north end, there is a tall narrow tower topped with brick battlements and cross-shaped openings, which is connected to the main wall by a brick arch. The central section of the wall includes a pointed arched window opening, a spur wall, and has a slightly curved east face. To the south, there is a circular 'tower' that is largely covered in ivy. This structure was originally designed to serve as an eyecatcher from Belchamp Hall.
