Description

Mill Cottage is a house that was formerly the miller's residence, dating from the mid 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a slate hipped roof. The building has two storeys and features later painted brick lean-tos on the north and east sides. The house consists of four bays, with the parlour located at the southern end. It has a large rectangular off-centre ridge line stack and a tall thin stack that rises through the roof of the northern lean-to. The windows are a mix of horizontal sliding sashes with small panes and 19th-century small pane casements. Inside, there is internal arched wall bracing in each bay and stop-chamfered floor joists. An early 19th-century corner cupboard is found in the former hall, which appears to have had an open central well instead of being fully open to the roof.
