Description

Munt House, formerly known as Munt Farmhouse, is a house that was originally a farmhouse, built in the early 18th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, with the timber frame exposed on the upper floor of the front. The building has two storeys and attics, topped with a peg tile roof that is gabled to the north and hipped to the south, extending to a rear wing. There is one gabled dormer on the front roof slope. The house includes a north gable end stack, a ridge line stack, and a small stack over the rear wing.

The front of the house has 19th-century mullioned and transomed casements with small panes, along with a central hipped peg tile open porch supported by turned Doric columns and featuring a miniature triglyphed frieze. The early 19th-century door surround is adorned with reeded pilasters and a frieze, with the design continuing into the capitals, and it includes a six-panel door. A painted timber plaque on the wall displays the date 1777. Inside, there are two inglenook stacks, several 17th and 18th-century doors, and heavy softwood spine beams. The floors are made of large and small brick paviors. Munt House is noted as a late example of a large timber-framed house.
