Description
Stanley Hall is a house primarily dating from the late 16th century, with significant restoration around 1930. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring exposed framing and a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The main part of the house has three bays facing southwest, with a two-bay crosswing on the right side. There are external chimney stacks on both return walls. The building has two rear extensions, one on the right added around 1952 and another on the left around 1960, creating a half-H shape. It stands two storeys high with attics and has a three-window range of 20th-century casements, along with four smaller windows featuring ovolo mullions and mouldings from the late 16th century, restored in the 1930s. A 20th-century porch is also present. The right side has a jetty with exposed joists that were replaced around 1930. The house includes two projecting gables with billet moulding and has 20th-century brick infill on the lower storey. The grouped diagonal shafts were rebuilt in the 20th century. Inside, there are jowled posts, curved bracing set within heavy studding, and chamfered beams and joists with lamb's tongue stops, along with a clasped purlin roof. The interior features many introduced elements, including panelling and heraldic glass. The house is situated on a moated site.
