Description

Daw Street Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with extensions added in the 19th century. It is constructed with a timber frame, plastered, and partly made of painted brick, topped with handmade red clay tiles. The main section of the house faces east and has an axial stack; the right part of the stack is from the 17th century, while the left part is a 19th-century extension. There is a single-storey lean-to extension along the entire length of the rear, also from the 19th century. The house is two storeys high with attics, and there is a wing that extends forward at the right end, made of painted brick, featuring an external stack at the angle. This wing is one storey with attics and has a three-window range of 20th-century casements. The main entrance features a six-panel door with glazed top panels, set in a 19th-century gabled porch, and there is also a four-panel door with upper glazed panels. The main range includes one gable with a 20th-century casement. Both stacks have grouped diagonal shafts. Inside, the house has jowled posts, chamfered axial and transverse beams (some of which are boxed in), exposed joists with a horizontal section, and clasped purlin roofs. The earliest features can be found in the rear end of the northern wing.
