Description

Mill Cottage, located immediately east of Mill House, is likely a 18th-century or earlier building, possibly a former brew house or agricultural building. The cottage has a timber frame with plaster above a weatherboarded plinth. The roof is covered with handmade clay plain tiles, featuring half-round ridge tiles to the hips. A brick stack remains on the south elevation. The ground floor has a 20th-century casement window. A gabled dormer with a side-hung casement is on the east side and the roof is hipped with a central finial.

Inside, a large chamfered cross beam with run-out stops is visible, along with unchamfered joists. A later partition creates a rear (west) room. From this room rise winder stairs to the attic. The first floor has also been partitioned and the roof is ceiled, but the wall plate is exposed.

The site is presumed to be one of the seven mill sites in the Finchingfield parish. This building may have been an ancillary structure to the former mill and house.
