Description
Astles is a house dating from the 18th century, constructed of red brick with some blue brick accents. It features a large half hipped gambrel roof and a dentilled eaves cornice. There are two red brick chimney stacks, each with four square attached shafts, bands, and moulded capping. The building has two storeys and attics, with a four-window range consisting mainly of three-light casements that are transomed and fitted with glazing bars, all topped with gauged brick arches. To the left return, there is a two-window range that is now blocked. The central entrance has a recessed panelled door with four lights, set in a moulded surround that includes a convex frieze and a moulded pediment. Internally, there are 18th and 19th-century doors and mouldings. Notably, H. De Vere Stacpool wrote 'The Blue Lagoon' in this house.
