Description

Pound End Mill is a former silk throwing mill dating to circa 1813, built by George Courtauld. It is timber framed with a ground floor of weatherboard and red brick in both English and Flemish bonds. The roof is slate-covered. The building is three storeys high. The ground floor has eight early 19th-century vertical sliding sash windows with glazing bars. The upper floors feature long runs of fixed lights and top-hung early 19th-century industrial windows with glazing bars and small panes. Internally, the original framing remains, although it is obscured. The mill forms a group with other buildings associated with New Mills, which are located to the south side of the street.
