Description

The stable block, dating from the early to mid-19th century, is located near Gosfield School. It is constructed of yellow Suffolk brick with grey slate roofs, the right side being hipped and featuring an eaves band. The building has an L-shaped plan. The two-storey section has a six-window front with vertically sliding sash windows and stone lintels on the first floor, and a vertically boarded loft door to the right, topped with a gable featuring moulded bargeboards and a finial. Four recessed arches are present, each with a keystone and top light; a centrally positioned arched doorway has a matching top light and a vertically boarded door. Mounting steps are recessed to the right of the doorway. A cupola with a lead pyramidal roof and weathervane sits above the gable. A single-storey section to the left is constructed of similar materials and contains three windows and two vertically boarded doors. The interior features a herringbone brick floor and retains original wooden stalls with iron rails and mangers.
