Description

The Vicarage, located at No. 15 on Queen Street in Castle Hedingham, is an 18th-century house constructed of red brick. It features a double range roof covered with red plain tiles and has curved gables. The building stands three storeys high with a basement and has a parapet front that slightly projects at the center. The façade is adorned with a brick modillion cornice and stucco bands separating the storeys, along with stucco rusticated quoins.

The window arrangement consists of a 2:1:2 pattern, primarily featuring small paned vertically sliding sashes set beneath gauged brick arches. Notably, there is a Venetian window at the center of the first floor, topped by a semi-elliptical window composed of five segments with a glazed upper margin.

Access to the house is via six central steps leading to an elegant Ionic porch, which is supported by columns and includes a moulded frieze and dentilled soffits beneath the pediment. The entrance features a six-panelled door, with matching windows flanking it on either side.

Additionally, there are red brick walls approximately 1.5 metres high that curve forward from the left and right corners of the house to the road, each wall containing four recessed arches and plain pillars.
