Description

Burghstead House is a fine 18th century red brick house that is now used as the public library. The front features a parapet and a stone cornice between the first and second storeys, along with a plain stone band between the ground and first storeys. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a five-window range of double-hung sash windows that have glazing bars and are set in plain reveals. The doorway is accessed by a flight of steps and includes a six-panel door topped by a semi-circular fanlight with fan glazing. This entrance is framed by a wooden doorcase with pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a modillion pediment. The roof is tiled and hipped.
