Description
Galewood, Pinewood, The Towers is a house built in 1908 by William Flockhart in the Arts and Crafts style. The building is constructed of brick, mainly roughcast rendered, and features hipped, mansard, and half hipped roofs at varying levels, all covered with plain tiles. It has rendered brick stacks and an asymmetric plan, generally comprising two ranges with a central tower. The house has two storeys and an attic with dormers. The windows are small pane casements, some of which include pivot lights, although there have been alterations to the ground floor fenestration. The tower rises to three storeys and an attic, topped with a half hipped, tiled roof and a weathervane. The main entrance is located off centre at the northeast end, featuring a segmental arch with a keyblock in a splayed opening, and is adorned with a hood of a segmental open pediment on brackets. A perspective drawing of the house by Oliver Hill, a pupil of Flockhart, titled "A Prospect of a House near Cambridge," is part of the RIBA drawings collection.
