Description
Fulwells is a house that dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed with a timber frame and has plastered and painted brickwork. It features a plain tile roof that is half hipped on the left side. A large rectangular ridge stack is located on the right side, which is shared with the adjacent property, No. 99, and replaces the eastern range of the original structure.
The house has been raised from its original one storey with an attic to now have two storeys. The main entrance, which faces west, has been sealed off with a window that includes glazing bars. There are two additional large windows on the ground floor, also with glazing bars. On the first floor, there are two horizontal sliding sash windows and a smaller window on the right side. Inside, the building features exposed floor frames and timber framing. There is a relief plaster panel on the chimney wall in the first-floor room. In 1840, John Hales, a builder and carpenter, owned both No. 97 and No. 99.
