Description
Michaelmas Cottage, originally a pair of cottages now combined into one, dates from the early 18th century. It features a timber-framed structure, rendered exterior, and a long straw thatch half-hipped roof, with a red brick shared ridge stack. The building has four bays and was extended at the rear in the mid to late 20th century. It is one storey high with an attic, featuring two gable dormers on the south side, four modern ground floor casements, and a baffle entry doorway.
Inside, each cottage originally had an inglenook hearth with a bread oven on the north side. The framing is exposed, showcasing a stop-chamfered main beam in one room. On the first floor, each cottage contains two rooms and retains a partition wall. The tie beam is jointed and pegged to the studs following the doorway between the two upper rooms.
