Description

The Old Chequers is a house, formerly a public house, located in West Wickham. It probably dates from the 18th century and was later clad in timber framing and plaster. A fire in May 1985 destroyed the original thatched roof, significantly damaging the rafters. The building was restored and converted to residential use in 1986, under listed building consent regulations. The main range is aligned north-east/south-west and has two brick ridge stacks, with a further ridge stack on the wing to the south. The building is one storey and has an attic with a garret window to the south-west. The north-west facing front has two windows and a central boarded door.
