Description
Barons Farmhouse comprises two main phases of building, dating to the early 16th century and later 17th century. The early 16th-century part is timber framed and stands on a brick plinth, with a rendered front wall retaining some original pargetted panels decorated with a birds claw foot pattern. The roof is thatched, with a ridge at two levels, half-hipped to the southwest end and gabled to the northeast end. A projecting red brick side stack is located on the rear wall, featuring offsets and two joined hexagonal shafts. The house has two bays and two storeys, with a late 20th-century casement window to the first and ground floors. The northeast part of the house is likely late 17th century, also timber framed, with similar pargetting. An end stack of red brick with offsets and two linked, diagonally-set shafts is present. This section also features two bays and two storeys, with two late 20th-century casement windows on each storey. The interior has not been inspected but is said to retain hollow and roll moulded main beams, similar to those found at the Manor House, Frog End, Shepreth, and Malton Farmhouse, Malton, Orwell. A nearby barn is dated 1763, inscribed on a tie beam.
