Description

The garden ornament located at the rear of The Manor House is a late 17th-century piece featuring the arms of Sir Christopher Hatton. This limestone urn has an acanthus base, floral swags, and mask ornamentation between two scroll handles. It is mounted on a round to square stem, which has panels decorated with arms in a cartouche and a hart with swags on a moulded plinth. Sir Christopher Hatton owned the property in 1681 and may have constructed the garden wall. This ornament is one of three arranged in a formal garden layout that includes two rectangular lawns bordered by box miniature hedges.
