Description
The Garden Vista Building to the north of Duxford Mill is a mausoleum built in 1869 by Julia de Freville. Originally located in the park at Hinxton Hall, Cambridgeshire, it was demolished and rebuilt as a garden vista building around 1960. Constructed from limestone and marble, it resembles a small neo-classical temple with a rectangular plan. The building features free Corinthian capitals on its columns and pilasters of an open portico, a deep moulded cornice, and a flat roof. The entrance includes a two-centred arched doorway with double doors that have fretted metal panels, dated 1869. Inside, there is a marble floor, and it once housed the mahogany coffins of two members of the de Freville family, along with a large sculpture of two seated angels by H White, which is now located in the grounds of Duxford Mill.
