Description

No. 13 High Street is a house built in the early 18th century, with a kitchen wing added in 1771. The front wall features clear red facing bricks, while the end walls are made of red and some yellow bricks, arranged in English bond. The steeply pitched roof is covered with 20th-century tiles and has end parapets supported by kneelers, along with a brick dentil eaves cornice. The original end stacks are made of yellow gault brick, with red brick rustication at the quoins.

The house has a single range plan and is two storeys tall with a symmetrical elevation. The central doorway is topped by an original flat canopy with a moulded cornice supported by scroll brackets. The door consists of four raised and fielded panels, with two small glazed upper panels. On either side of the door are 19th-century hung sashes with lowered sills, but the original cambered arches made of alternating burnt and red brickwork remain intact. A plain band of three bricks separates the two storeys. The first floor features two window openings and a central blind window, with two of the arches being original and similar to those on the ground floor, although the sills have been lowered except for the blind window. There is also a tradesmen's doorway on the right side.

The kitchen wing at the rear, added in 1771, is constructed of brick and has a tiled roof. Inside, there are some raised and fielded panelled doors, along with an early 19th-century staircase featuring square section balusters. The original layout of two rooms on either side of a central hall and stairbay has remained unchanged.
