Description

Swan House, located on the High Street in Over, Cambridgeshire, is a late 17th or early 18th century house. It was partially rebuilt and enlarged in the mid-20th century. The house is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a tiled roof, a saw-tooth eaves cornice, and tumbled gable end parapets resting on kneelers. It has flush end stacks. Originally, the building had an L-shaped plan, including a kitchen wing at the rear and a stair turret; both of these were demolished and replaced with a mid-20th century wing. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has two dormers. It features three flush frame hung sash windows with segmental arches, dating to the 20th century, set within open boxing. Two similar windows are located on either side of the off-centre doorway. Joan I. Bold’s history of Over, Cambridgeshire (1958) provides further historical context.
