Description
Nos. 1 and 3 King Street is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, which was converted into two cottages and a shop in the 19th century, and is now a single dwelling. The building is timber framed and plaster rendered, with brick and clay lump on the left-hand end wall. It features a steeply pitched roof that was originally thatched but is now covered with corrugated iron. A red brick ridge stack has been repointed and cut down. The layout consists of a single range plan with an original lobby entry. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has one small window at eaves height. There are adjacent and shared architraves for a small 19th-century shop window, which has vertical glazing bars, and a boarded door. The cottage door includes one 19th-century horizontal sliding sash and a boarded door, with panelled shutters on the casement to the right. Inside, there are abutting inglenook hearths, with one in the centre room featuring an early 19th-century reeded fireplace surround adorned with boss enrichments. The wall plates extend into a narrower pantry and storage bay on the right.
