Description
No 8 George Street is a house that was formerly the George and Dragon Public House, built in 1672. It features a timber frame with brick and render, topped by a steeply pitched slate roof and an original ridge stack. The building has a single range lobby entry plan and stands two storeys tall. It includes three horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes, likely in their original openings, and three hung sash windows on either side of the doorway leading to the lobby entry. Inside, the date is incised on the ovolo moulded and stopped main beam, which is supported by a pad carved with dentils. The rear wall shows visible framing, while the left-hand gable end is constructed of local red brick. The interior also features abutting inglenook hearths and one smaller hearth on the first floor.
