Description
12 and 14 High Street is a house dating from the early 17th century, with later additions at the rear. The building is timber framed, pebbledash rendered, and partly cased and underbuilt in brick from the 19th century. It features a steeply pitched roof that is slated at the front and tiled at the rear, with a 19th-century gault brick ridge stack. The layout is a lobby entry plan, with a lower kitchen wing at the rear that forms an L-shape. The house has two storeys and an attic, with the first floor originally jettied but now underbuilt. There are two horizontal sliding sashes with their heads flush with the eaves, and three 19th-century hung sashes on either side of the doorway leading to the lobby entry. The doorway is framed by a reeded doorcase. The kitchen wing is also framed but has been repaired in brick. Adjoining the house is a horseman's cottage, likely from the 19th century, constructed of brick.
