Description
No. 2 High Street is a house dating from around 1600. It features a timber frame, roughcast, and pebbledash render, topped with a steeply pitched roof now covered with asbestos. The house has a yellow and red gault brick ridge stack with a string course. It is designed in a two-bay, lobby entry plan and stands two storeys tall, with the first floor jettied over the road. There are two casement windows on the first floor and two hung sash windows on either side of the doorway, which is framed by a reeded doorcase from around 1840, embellished with boss decorations at the corners. The right gable end displays the date 1756 on the pebbledash. Inside, one of the inglenook hearths remains intact but has been sealed. A ground floor room features a main beam with ovolo moulding on the chamfer and leaf stops, and the beam's soffit is adorned with carved running folded leaf ornament. The house contains late 18th century and early 19th century panelled doors throughout and includes a cellar.
