Description
Linton Mill is a watermill that dates back to the early 18th century, with some parts rebuilt and enlarged in the 19th century and again in 1903. The structure is made of local brick and 19th-century brick that has been painted, along with painted weatherboarding on the brick and timber frame. It features slate roofs, including a mansard roof on the north side of the left-hand range.
The mill consists of two four-storey parallel blocks that flank the lane and are connected by a catwalk at the third floor level. There is a gantry for a sack hoist on the left-hand range facing west, along with two ventilation funnels. The mill has various boarded doors at all floor levels and windows, including transomed and mullioned windows, as well as mullioned casement windows.
A mill has been recorded on this site since around 1270. It was sold in 1908 to Linton Milling and Corn Company and ceased operations around 1972. Linton Mill is a prominent feature in the Granta Valley and holds landscape value.
