Description
The Rectory is a building constructed in 1819 by James Webster for Reverend John Brocklebank, intended to replace an earlier house, parts of which may have been integrated into the current structure. It is made of grey gault brick and features slate roofs with end stacks on each gable end. The front guttering is concealed by a moulded wood eaves cornice supported by paired brackets. The house has a layout of two parallel, linked ranges and stands two storeys tall. The main facade faces the garden and includes four recessed hung sash windows with flat, gauged brick arches on each floor. The first-floor windows are fitted with later 19th-century louvred shutters. The main entrance is located in the west gable end of the rear range, positioned almost beneath the valley. It features a reeded doorcase with decorative boss enrichments at the corners, leading to a door with eight beaded panels and a rectangular fanlight above, which has glazing bars. Above the doorway is a similar recessed hung sash window, flanked by blind recesses. Inside, the house maintains its original layout, with the incumbent's study accessible from the corridor. The staircase, plaster cornice mouldings, reeded doorcases, and a fireplace are all original features.
