Description

The Marshalls Cambridge Airport control and office building, constructed in 1938, is an airport office building that previously served as a control, club, and terminal building. Designed by A.G.G. Marshall for his own company, Marshall of Cambridge (Engineering) Ltd., it features a modern style with a rendered exterior, likely over brick, and a parapeted flat roof.

The building is single storey with a two-storey central section. The entrance front consists of an eight-window range of metal casements in configurations of two, three, and four lights. On the first floor, there are two four-light casements flanking the central section, which projects forward. This section includes a large tripartite window of metal casements above a flat entrance canopy supported by thin metal stanchions. The entrance features oak glazed double doors with matching side panels.

Facing the airfield, the building has a 19-window range, along with a square bay to the right and a semicircular two-storey bay at the center, with most windows being metal casements. The first floor has a section that projects forward to the bay, featuring corner windows and additional casements. The ground floor includes three part-glazed doors.

Inside, the entrance hall contains a staircase leading to a gallery with an open wooden balustrade. There is a room with a bay window that is reported to have originally been the club lounge and features panelling. This building is noted as a rare and little-altered example of an interwar airport control, club, and terminal building.
