Description
The Ancient Shepherd is an inn dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It features a combination of plastered timber-frame and painted brick construction, topped with plain tile hipped roofs. The building has two local gault brick ridge stacks and a gable stack on the east side. It is one storey high with attics and includes three gabled dormer windows. To the east of the entrance, there are two four-paned hung sash windows beside a four-panelled door. The inn also has an early 19th-century canted bay window with a plain tile roof. On the west side, there is a half-glazed panelled door flanked by two three-light horizontal sliding sash windows set in segmental brick arches.
