Description

Priory Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century, with a late 16th century brew house to the southeast that is partly incorporated into the original structure. There is also a mid to late 17th century double pile range facing the street, along with 19th century extensions and alterations. The building is constructed of timber framing and plaster, with gault brick and painted brick elements. It features red plain tiled and slated roofs and stands two storeys tall.

The street elevation has been refaced and extended by one bay on the left side in the 19th century. The main entrance has a wooden reeded doorcase with corner bosses and a recessed half-glazed panelled door. There are one blind and two twenty-paned recessed hung sash windows on the ground floor, and one blind and three sixteen-paned recessed hung sash windows on the first floor. The farmhouse has an end stack on the right side and a ridge stack. The rear elevation includes some 18th century plaster and a casement window with leaded lights.

Inside, the farmhouse reveals exposed timber framing from the 16th and 17th centuries, with an inserted 18th century floor in the brewery area, a reduced and rebuilt 18th century kitchen hearth, and early 19th century details and staircase in the main street range. A candle flame inscription dated 1722 can be found in the rear attic, and there are timber marks in the brewery reading IS x 69 x 19. The farmhouse is believed to be located on the site of Ickleton Priory.
