Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 13th century, with late medieval and early 17th-century elements. It has been timber-framed and is cased or rebuilt in 19th-century gault brick, topped with plain tile roofs. The building is one storey with attics and features an irregular L-plan with crosswings to the north-west and south-east. The main range on the south-east side includes three bays of an aisled hall, which has later inserted floors and a chimney stack.
On the north-west elevation, the crosswing on the left has a painted brick external gable stack, while the south-east range on the right features a gablet to its hipped roof. There are two doorways on either side, both with 20th-century doors and segmental brick arches. The right-hand doorway has a 19th-century canopy supported on shaped brackets. The farmhouse has three horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes, including two three-light windows. Additionally, there is one gabled dormer window and one attic window, both with horizontal sliding sashes.
Historically, the farmhouse was formerly owned by Christ's College. The 13th-century aisled hall was likely the manor house of Barnwell, rebuilt after being burnt in 1266 by Montfortian rebels from the Isle of Ely.
