Description
Old Bull House is a house that was formerly an inn, dating from the mid to late 17th century and extended at the rear in the 19th century. The building is timber framed, rendered, and covered in white brick, with the front painted. The northeast end features red brick. It has a plain tile roof and a red brick ridge stack that has been repaired, consisting of four diagonally set linked shafts on a rectangular base with a moulded cornice. The layout includes a hall and a southwest crosswing, and the house stands two storeys high.
On the first floor of the hall range, there are two modern windows, and the entrance features a baffle entry doorway. The crosswing has a modern window on each of its two storeys, and the west wall of the crosswing includes a first-floor three-light ovolo mullion window. A lean-to cellar was added at the rear in the 19th century and was raised to two storeys in the mid to late 20th century, with the crosswing also being extended at the rear during the 20th century.
Inside, there is an inglenook hearth that connects to a parlour hearth with a shaped rear wall. The two chambers above also retain their original hearths. The building features downward wall bracing and a clasped side purlin roof.
