Description
Thorpes is a cottage that dates from the late 16th century and late 17th century. It was divided into four tenements around 1830. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with thatched roofs that are half hipped to the left. There is an end stack on the left and two ridge stacks. Originally, it was a one-storey and attic structure with a three-unit lobby entry plan, and it had single-storey kitchen and service rooms to the north. The building was partly altered in the late 19th century to function as a shop but has now been restored as a single dwelling. The entrance has been moved to the right of centre and features a boarded door. There are four ground floor casement windows and one eyebrow dormer window. Inside, the timber frame and floor frames are exposed, showcasing original hearths. Some of the timber framing appears to be reused or part of an earlier building on the site.
