Description
Carlton War Memorial is located at the junction of Church Road and Carlton Green Road, opposite the Grade II*-listed church of St Peter. The memorial features a simple cross made of Portland stone with chamfered edges, resting on a small square foot that rises from a tapered plinth.
The dedicatory inscription states "ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF CARLTON." The front face of the cross bears the inscription "FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH," while the front face of the foot stone displays the dates "1914 – 1918." The names of ten servicemen who died in the First World War are carved on the front face of the plinth, and the names of two who died in the Second World War are on the rear, along with the dates "1939 – 1945." All inscriptions are incised and filled with mortar.
Surrounding the base of the memorial is a concrete kerb that encloses a flower bed.
