Description

This is a house dating to the late 15th century, with significant alterations and additions in the early 17th century, and further changes in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is timber-framed and now has a pargetted cement render, with plain tile roofs, the left-hand roof being hipped with a gablet. It comprises a single-storey open hall and a service bay to the right, with a jettied crosswing to the left. A chimney stack incorporates a baking oven within the cross passage, and the hall and service bay were chambered over in the 17th century. A single-storey extension, timber-framed with pantiles, was added to the right-hand gable in the 17th century. There are a ridge stack and a side stack on the left-hand side, with rebuilt upper courses. An 18th-century panelled door is located in the original cross passage position, alongside four ground-floor, and four attic and first-floor casement windows added in the 20th century. Inside, the exposed timber-frame remains, along with clearly visible 17th-century rebuilding, insertions, and original openings. A three-light diamond mullioned window with a shutter groove is present in the crosswing. The side purlin roofs have rafters, blackened by smoke, over the hall.
