Description

Caius Farmhouse and Petersfield Farmhouse, originally a single farmhouse, are located in St Peter's Street, Duxford. The core of the building dates to the late 17th century, with significant alterations and additions in the 18th, early 19th, and late 19th centuries. The construction is timber-framed and plastered, with a later facade of yellow brick. The roof is tiled, with a red brick ridge stack on the right-hand range and a gable end stack on the right-hand side of the main range. The north-east range may have been a converted barn, refronted when the brick range to the south-west was added in the late 19th century. The original main entrance, located on the left-hand side, has plain pilasters and a moulded cornice, with a rectangular fanlight above a panelled door. There are three ground-floor and three first-floor hung sash windows. The interior of the lower range shows an exposed timber-frame constructed of reused timbers. It features large back-to-back fireplaces, with one incorporating a resited 15th-century moulded bressumer. There are also some early 18th and early 19th century panelled doors.
