Description
Mill Cottage, also known as No. 57, is a 18th-century mill house located on Melbourn Station Road. It features a small mid-20th century extension at the west end. The building is timber framed and has a lathe and plaster render, topped with a tiled gabled roof and an original red brick end stack. It consists of two bays and is two storeys tall with an attic, including one dormer. Each storey has two small pane casements from the mid to late 20th century, along with a doorway of a similar style on the ground floor. Inside, there is a red brick inglenook hearth. The mill house is linked to Sheene Mill, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book, although the current structure dates from the 18th century. In 1842, it was owned by Ann Fitch and occupied by George Charter.
