Description

A barn, dating from around 1700, that has been converted into six cottages, and subsequently into two houses, with mid-19th century and early 20th-century alterations. The building is timber framed and has been plastered, with a long straw thatched roof and two 19th-century brick ridge stacks. It originally comprised six bays with a queen strut roof. The east front of No. 29 features an off-centre plank door, a 3-light 20th-century casement window to the left, and two 2-light 19th-century sliding sash windows to the right, beyond a passageway. Above, there is a 2-light 20th-century casement and two 2-light 19th-century sliding sash windows. No. 29A has an off-centre stable door flanked by single 2-light 19th-century sliding sash windows, with a 3-light 20th-century casement beyond to the right. Above, there are three 2-light 19th-century sliding sash windows. The west front of No. 29 has a glazed door to the right which is linked to a 3-light 19th-century casement, a linked 2-light and 3-light 19th-century casement to the left with a passageway beyond, and three 3-light 19th-century sliding sash windows above. No. 29A has an off-centre pair of glazed doors and a large glazed porch, with a single 19th-century casement window to the right, and two 3-light 19th-century casement windows to the left. Above, there are three 3-light 19th-century sliding sash windows. The interior retains some exposed timber framing. The building has group value in this regard.
