Description

Ryder's Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed farmhouse that dates back to the late 13th century, featuring an aisled hall and a crosswing that may be from the 15th century or earlier. The building has undergone additions and alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed with timber framing and plaster, early 18th-century local bricks, and 19th-century brick, with plain tile roofs. The farmhouse has red brick ridge stacks on both the main range and the crosswing.

The structure is two storeys high, with a central main range that includes an aisled hall and a crosswing to the west that has a hipped roof. There are one-storey extensions with attics to the east. The north-facing facade features one boarded door on the left, one four-panelled door, two horizontally sliding sash windows, and three hung sash windows, which are arranged in a random pattern.

Inside, there are two arcade posts and arcade plates with tie beams and a crown post truss, along with some rafters from the original 15th-century hall. Other timbers may be hidden behind 19th-century plastered ceilings and partitions. The interior also includes a dairy with a cheese press. The farmhouse is located on the pre-enclosure building line of the village green. Lady Dudley Ryder, the daughter of Thomas Cockayne, lived at the farmhouse in 1852.
