Description

Long Thatch is a cottage with origins in the 16th century, with additions from the 17th and 19th centuries. It features a timber frame, rendered exterior, and a long straw thatch roof, complete with a ridge and end stack. The building has a lobby entry plan and consists of one storey and an attic. There are three dormers and three wooden casement windows on the ground floor, along with a doorway leading to the lobby entry. A bay was added to the east end in the 19th century, which is also framed, rendered, and topped with long straw thatch. Inside, the 16th-century framing is exposed in the rear wall of the central bay, although some of it has been reset, showcasing heavy close-set studding.
