Description
The Priory is a building dating from 1590, formerly known as the house occupied by Dr. Diemer. It is a mid-18th century structure with two storeys, cellars, and dormers. The building has a double front with three windows and features a tiled roof. It is constructed from gault brick with a stone plinth. The windows are architraved sash windows with exposed boxing and glazing bars, and there are gauged segmental brick arches above the ground floor windows. The entrance boasts a good doorcase with fluted Doric pilasters that support an entablature and pediment, along with a patterned half-glazed panelled door. There is a one-storey extension on the south side, which includes an early 19th-century doorcase with a reeded surround and a projecting hood. Stone steps lead to the doorways, and there is a cobbled forecourt. The building also features cast iron guttering with lion-head brackets. A plaque in the garden wall marks the site of the Priory gatehouse.
