Description
The Rectory is a house that was formerly used as a rectory, with a date marked on a gate pier of 1848. It is constructed from ashlar and coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar and freestone dressings. The building has low pitched hipped roofs covered with Welsh slates, and it includes two symmetrical ashlar stacks as well as rear stacks. The structure is two storeys high, with a main north-south range and a service wing to the north-east. The main entrance is located to the south at the angle of the building.
The garden facade consists of three bays, adorned with giant pilasters and double horizontal bands at the cill and lintel heights. It features a deep moulded wooden eaves cornice and boarded eaves. There are three garden casements with moulded stone architraves, which include margin lights and louvred shutters, along with three recessed first-floor nine-paned hung sash windows that have pilastered jambs. To the right, there is a half bay extension with a moulded cornice leading to a plain parapet, while the left side has a modern extension.
At the south, there is a porch with a round-headed outer archway and a triangular pediment supported by reeded console brackets. The inner door is glazed and panelled. Historical documents include a specification for erecting the house and offices as a rectory from 1833, as well as notes of alterations made by rectors William Pain, Medforth, and Milnes from 1905 to 1935, which can be found in the Inskip Ladds Collection at the Norris Museum in St Ives.
