Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Mill Lane are two dwellings that were originally part of a house or farmhouse, which has since been divided into three cottages. The building dates from the early to mid-17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of painted coursed limestone rubble with freestone and ashlar dressings, topped with a thatched roof. The gables have parapets, with an ashlar stack on the left and a brick ridge stack to the right of the center, along with a stack at the rear. The structure is one storey with an attic and features an original three-unit plan that has been modified by the addition of a rear kitchen wing, creating an L-shape. There are boarded doors on the left and right sides, three ground floor horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes, and two eyebrow dormer windows with leaded lights in horizontal sliding sashes. Inside, the building has stop-chamfered and boxed ceiling beams, and a large central stack that may have been rebuilt in the 19th century.
