Description
The Old Hall is a 17th-century manor house hall, dated 1659 on a carved stone at the base of the chimney stack. It is a T-shaped building, with a lobby entry and a brick outshut rebuilt in the 19th century to two storeys. The building is two storeys high with attics. It is constructed of dressed limestone with a red brick rear wing. The roofs are plain tiled, with ashlar copings to the parapets and moulded kneelers. The large ridge stack is of ashlar, incorporating three shafts and a common moulded entablature. There are two hipped dormer windows with iron lattice casements. The first floor has three 19th-century replacement cross-framed windows with iron casements, retaining original chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The ground floor has three similar windows of two and three lights. A 18th-century door with six raised and fielded panels is set within a modern porch.
Inside, there are two large inglenook hearths with remains of a baking oven. There is early 18th-century pine panelling and a chimney piece in the hall, with some reset panels in the parlour. Similar panelling is found in two rooms of the wing, alongside two 19th-century staircases. The original butt purlin roofs are present in both the main hall and the wing.
