Description

17 High Street is a late 19th-century house built on the site of an earlier 18th-century building, with two wings originating from that earlier date. The house is located on the south side of High Street in Fenstanton. The building is constructed of old and 19th-century red brick, with plain tile roofs. The north wing was largely rebuilt above the first floor, retaining its original gable parapet on the right-hand side. It has three hung sash windows at each floor level, with glazing bars set within segmental arches. A band separates the floors. The porch is a two-storey structure with an ogee stone arch, side lights, and a round-headed fanlight, leading to a four-panelled door. The building features a dentil eaves cornice and a hipped roof with a finial. The south wing is two storeys high and has a gable stack. It contains two first-floor hung sash windows with glazing bars in segmental arches, and a doorway with two windows on the ground floor; the ground-floor window is a hung sash with glazing bars also set in a segmental arch. A red brick wall with pyramidal caps on brick piers runs along the street frontage.
